Annihilation

Transformation makes the unknown difficult to distinguish from the self.

The film's altered environment destabilizes the distinction between an external force and an inner tendency. Transformation can reveal patterns that were already present while also producing changes no one chose.

The unknown is not a blank screen for human projection, but the characters can interpret it only through the concepts they bring. This tension makes perception both necessary and unreliable.

The film's imagery should not be reduced to a clinical metaphor for illness or self-harm. It uses biological change to explore identity and mortality without supplying a universal psychological explanation.

Destruction and renewal are not clean opposites. A changed self may carry traces of what came before, while the desire to return to an untouched original may be impossible or ethically complicated.

The unknown is not a blank screen for human projection, but the characters can interpret it only through the concepts they bring.

When I change, which parts of the change are mine to choose and which are conditions I must learn to face?
