Alligator Snapping Turtle
A worm-like tongue appendage can lure fish close to its jaws.
The Biological Miracle: The alligator snapping turtle can remain still with its mouth open and move a small appendage on its tongue. Fish may approach what resembles food, bringing them within reach of the turtle.
The Philosophical Mirror: The hunter's stillness makes the prey's own curiosity part of the encounter. What appears to be an independent opportunity has been shaped by another organism's adaptation.
The Human Takeaway: We often treat what attracts us as a neutral chance. What invitations in my life have been shaped by someone else's interests before I ever chose to approach?
