Cliff Swallow

Mud nests attach beneath ledges and may form dense colonies.

The Biological Miracle: Cliff swallows gather mud pellets and shape them into enclosed nests attached beneath cliffs, bridges, or other overhangs. Colonies can contain many nests, offering proximity while also creating competition and shared exposure to disturbance.

The Philosophical Mirror: Shelter is both an individual structure and a collective landscape. A nest becomes safer or more vulnerable depending on where neighbors build and how the environment changes around them.

The Human Takeaway: Our homes also depend on shared infrastructure and the people living nearby. What responsibilities arise when my shelter is part of a community rather than a private island?
