Blanket Octopus
Females are far larger than males and can display broad webbed membranes.
The Biological Miracle: Blanket octopus females can grow vastly larger than males and spread long webbed membranes that resemble a flowing cloak. Some individuals have been observed using stinging tentacles from siphonophores as defense, though such behavior is not universal.
The Philosophical Mirror: Sexual dimorphism can produce radically different bodies within one species. A human expectation that partners should be similar in size or role is not a biological law.
The Human Takeaway: Difference does not imply a hierarchy of worth, and unusual partnerships do not need to mirror human norms. What assumptions about size, power, or gender do I mistake for universal?
