Platypus
This egg-laying mammal combines electroreception with unusual reproductive and defensive traits.
The Biological Miracle: Platypuses lay eggs, detect electrical signals from prey with receptors in the bill, and produce milk that reaches young through skin rather than nipples. Males also have venomous spurs, especially relevant during breeding periods.
The Philosophical Mirror: The animal complicates categories built around a simplified picture of what mammals are supposed to be. Nature's diversity is not a ladder toward one standard form.
The Human Takeaway: When a living being does not fit my categories, do I revise the categories or treat the being as an exception that proves nothing?
