Sandgrouse
Specialized breast feathers can carry water to chicks across arid landscapes.
The Biological Miracle: In some sandgrouse species, males have breast feathers that can absorb and retain water. They can carry it back to the nest, where chicks drink from the wet feathers; the amount and distance depend on conditions.
The Philosophical Mirror: A body's structure can make care portable. The parent carries a resource from one place to another, turning its own feathers into a temporary bridge between water and young.
The Human Takeaway: Care often means carrying resources across distance for someone who cannot reach them alone. What support could I make more accessible to people who depend on me?
